3 out of 5 stars Scotts lawn mower   April 10, 2010

Decent mower for small areas. It is fairly easy to adjust the height and my 8 year old can mow the small lawn we have.

1 out of 5 stars Mower? Never got it cuz Amazon sucks.   April 8, 2010

Can't review the mower because Amazon said it was available and it wasn't. One week later got the sharpening kit and the grass catcher, then another week later got an email saying they cancelled my order because it turns out the mower was not available. Thanks alot Amazon. You suck. Now I got a sharpening kit and a grass catcher for a mower I won't ever get. Great business you got going here.

4 out of 5 stars a great push reel mower, but not a gas mower.   April 8, 2010

this should be obvious, but this is NOT a gas mower: ie it doesn't suck the blades tall and tear through them with the power of a medium-sized herd of horses. So don't expect that kind of performance. It IS a great reel mower thats worked like a charm for me with minimal maintenance. It assembled easily, and I've never had any problems with it mechanically. As long as I don't let the grass grow too long (taller that the front safety bar) it is efficient and easy to push. If you (like us) have faster growing weeds, like spring onions, in your grass the mower will generally miss them cause they're too tall. If you're not a perfectionist, it works fine. I LOVE how i just roll it out and start mowing, while my hubby is still gunking out and priming the gas mower. Its quiet and its nice to enjoy that cut grass smell. No gas purchasing. Its a great workout and amuses our older neighbors. I use it for our smaller front yards, while we use the power mower for the back acre. I wouldn't recomend reel mowers for huge yards. The grass is healthier too, since reel mowers cut rather than tear the blades.

4 out of 5 stars Easy to set-up and push, just wish it edged better   April 7, 2010

Had this unit out of the box and set up in ten to fifteen minutes. Installation instructions are a bit lacking although it is self intuitive. I'm convinced my 1 year old could have set the mower up given enough time. The height adjustment on the other hand has bolts and blocks with multiple holes. Rest assured the pre-set height will likely be fine for your first few mowings as this is the only area I find potentially confusing to someone. The mower is very easy to push and seems to mow even.

Additionally, wish these mowers would get closer to an edge so but oh well.

Overall very good.

3 out of 5 stars Amazon, shoddy service   December 22, 2009

We got this mower as a way to save money until we can afford the beast that we really want. My husband was very skeptical about my purchase, so we have a deal that I will mow the lawns until we are able to get the upgrade, I think in an attempt that I will cave and let him go get financing.
We got the mower and it was taped up alot, I opened it and found the little baggie with all the hardware had been opened. I thought perhaps the blade had cut it, but their were some missing parts. No big deal $2.50 at the store and we were good to go. Also the instruction booklet had been opened. The height adjuster is plastic and had been stripped. I tried to find a number to call Amazon to get some help, but there is none. Our lawn was in desperate need so I used it. Although we have 30 days to return it, I cannot do it as I have used it, and I realize Amazon would just pacakage it up and send it to another sucker. As it is a temporary mower for us, we will keep it, but our conclusion is that it had been bought by someone else, returned and then reshipped to us without being checked out. We tried to call Scotts to get a replacement plastic piece, but we would need to pay to get it shipped to them and then back to us. Not a money saver at all. Hubby was able to rig it so mower is on the lowest setting and we were off.
Despite all the little issues, I like it. We live in Florida, in a rural area and we love it. Our lawn is less than flat due to the dogs that the previous owner had. Some weeds need to be mowed over a few times and if that is too much of a pain I pick the weed and are done with it. It has been a few weeks and my lawn looks heathier. I do get some odd looks from people as they drive by, but who cares? I feel less worn out after using this mower and feel safe letting my kids outside while using it as they are not going to get whacked by any flying sticks or stones like a convetional mower would let out.
