5 out of 5 stars Great lawn mower!   June 1, 2010
M. K. Love (New Jersey, USA)

I bought this mower about 6 weeks ago and wanted to use it for a while before writing a review. Well, I've used it about half a dozen times and I love it. This mower makes cutting the lawn almost fun, (maybe not fun, but certainly less of a chore). The key starter gets the mower running quickly with zero effort, and the self propulsion system works great. The variable speed handle is easy to use and intuitive. Depress the handle all the way and you can practically jog behind this mower, or if you prefer, give it a gentle squeeze for a leisurely stroll.
The construction seems rugged and well designed.
Initially, I almost didn't buy this mower because the catch bag looked too small. I had visions of having to stop every few minutes to dump the clippings but the first time I used the mower I realized how they could get away with such a small bag. The grass clippings were so fine they almost looked like dust. In the end I emptied the bag far less often than I used to with my 15 year old Sears mower. In fact, this mower mulches so well the last few times I cut the grass I didn't use the bag at all, I just let the nearly invisible clippings fall on the lawn.
Between eliminating the need to bag clippings and the great self propulsion system, this mower reduces my lawn cutting time by half. I wish I had gotten a mower like this years ago.

4 out of 5 stars Almost enjoy mowing the lawn now :-)   May 26, 2010

My happiness with this lawn mower began when I found instructions, on the shipping cart, showing how to take the mower out of the carton. Mine was purchased at Home Depot where it was loaded into my SUV, although that meant unloading it at my home, by myself.
In about 20 to 30 minutes I had the mower unpacked while still in the SUV, wheeled down to the garage floor, and assembled for use.
Instructions helped tremendously and shortened the setup time.

My first outing with the mower was on tall grass that had been waiting for a new mower. I cut the lawn and found it to be a tiring exercise for me, now and old 74 yo guy. What happened, I feel, is I had the cutting set too low. Between high grass, low cutting, and bagging, I was plenty tired, although the lawn looked really great.

The next three mowings were easier and I knew that this is one good purchase and recommend it to all with medium sized lawns.
The clippings bag is a little hard to get on since you have to hold open a spring-loaded door on the back of the mower while trying to attach the bag. It can be done, but is something that needs improvement. The battery has remained charged since I bought the mower six weeks ago and the engine starts on one or two clicks of the key turning.

That electric starter is one of the best parts of the machine. I kept my old mower (a White with Briggs and Stratton 5.5 HP engine) much too long. When it no longer started late last year I gave it away, to be fixed or recycled, and swore any new lawn care products, particularly mowers, must have electric starters. Please pay whatever is extra for this feature as it will pay for itself in avoiding back problems. T

To check the oil, fill up the gas tank and turn the machine on with a key is outstanding and gets me in the mood to work. Out of the garage I go to take care of the lawn in short order. With the electric starter, I don't mind powering off and taking a rest whenever I feel like doing that.

The hight adjustment works well for me. The manual tells what the different setups are in inches. If I let the lawn grow too high, it is easy to adjust the cutting hight up or down. On the last mowing I adjusted the blades to cut high so as to avoid taking off too much of the grass tops.

The only negatives on this mower, for me, are the previously mentioned difficulty in putting on and taking off the grass clippings bag. That should be fixed. Also, I find the speed adjustment, while mowing, is hard to control. This is just a bar running the width of the handle and it always runs at a fast speed which you change by squeezing the bar up. Too often the mower just about pulls me to the
ground when I neglect to watch the speed. My old mower (the White) had an adjustment for speed that let me set the speed at several
speeds, low to high, and keep it there.

Because of those items, I rated this a four. Fix those and it is a five, for sure.

I bought this mower and used it once. I was very happy with the ease of starting and pushing it! Plus it also looks great!I have fibromyalgia so I need this type of a mower. It worked great! Unfortunately I had a problem the second time I used it. The mower's block broke in pieces. I am not sure why it broke but Amazon was so great at getting another out to me with no charge an upgrade..no questions asked and next day shipping! Since stress makes my condition worse I was elated! I will always stick with amazon since they stick by their products. I love Amazon. Thank you soooo much! You made my life so much better...(=+}and I love my new Lawn Boy 10647 20-Inch 6.75 GT Briggs & Stratton Gas Powered Variable Speed Rear Wheel Drive Self Propelled Lawn Mower With Electric Start (CARB Compliant)mower! 4 out of 5 stars Good Lawn Mower with Electric Start   April 24, 2010
G. Cox (Shanghai, China)
I first purchased a Black & Decker 36 volt lawn mower before purchasing this lawn mower. The 36 volt lawn mower just didn't cut it - pun intended. I really wanted the battery powered lawn mower to work, but it just was not powerful enough. As you would expect, this gasoline powered lawn mower works just fine to cut St. Augustine grass in the Houston area. The first lawn cutting exercise of the season meant bagging up many bags of clippings. And that meant stopping and restarting the lawn mower about ten times. I charged the battery for about a day before using it. However, the battery only managed to start the engine about seven times before running down. Unlike a previous battery start lawn mower I owned, this one does not charge the battery except from a wall outlet. However, the lawn mower did start on the first pull every time. I do not expect this little battery to last very long. It will probably be very expensive to replace which will be very annoying. I paid a little extra for the CARB compliant model to reduce my contribution pollution. I recommend that everybody do this. Ideally the battery powered lawn mower would have worked, but I don't think they are ready for the real world yet.

I opened the case with the lawnmower within minutes of its delivery and discovered a problem with the right front wheel. It was locked tight, apparently wedged into another part of the assembly, and as a result was totally immobile. I contacted Amazon immediately and was given instructions on how to return it after I advised them that I was unwilling to take a chance on a replacement. UPS picked it up the following day and Amazon applied the credit within a day or two. Amazon's response was the only good part of this purchase.
