Improved Cordless Mower July 27, 2010 Aaron French I first owned the Black & Decker 24 volt cordless mower... First, the plastic wheels fell off, then I had to replace the 24 volt battery (twice)... However, it did last, (all-be-it with 3 of my own modifications, with parts from my snow blower's handle & wing nuts), 4-ish seasons of mowing. I next purchased a no named Lowe's mower the "Task Force". It had a steal housing & steal axles, it lasted part wise longer. But, It's battery also failed somewhat equally. That said for 7-ish seasons of mowing, I replaced my 24 volt(s) 3 times for something like $350 total (ebay). Does that equal what you would spend on gas ? I don't know, but, I never had oil or gas in my face or on my clothes after all those years.
This 36 volt Black & Decker, I purchased this year seems to be holding up better than both pervious purchases. So far, nothing seems to be rattling or falling off, and the 36 volts finishes the job with-out an extra charge or battery change. I personally will appreciate removing the battery to charge it in the basement this winter, while leaving the mover in the friggin garage... (not good draggin a mower across your hardwood floor).
Bottom line, after one season of use - I like this cordless mower better than it's predecessor
Great mower (mostly) July 25, 2010 J. David Yount 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my 3rd cordless electric mulching mower, and 2nd Black and Decker (previous model was a CMM1000, which lasted over 10 years before the electric motor brushes and a few other parts wore out). The major improvement of this model over the earlier models is that the battery is easily removable for recharging or replacement. With earlier models, replacement of the battery was a real pain (at least for me). I'm not convinced that having a 36 volt battery rather than a 24 volt battery is a necessary improvement -- at least not for me, even though I have a yard that is too large (approximately 3/4 acre of mowed lawn) to mow on one charge. I keep my blade level at the high end of the range so I don't need the extra power. But it suits me just fine to take a break and resume the next day.
One thing I miss from my earlier CMM1000 model is that there is no battery-charge-level indicator on this one. Maybe this was a trade-off from not having the battery as an integral part of the mower, but I liked knowing how much charge I had left. With the CM1936, in contrast, the only indicator of insufficient charge is when the mower rather quickly looses power, making further mowing futile. Another problem is getting the key or the recharge cable inserted into its receptacle on the handle. I usually have to fiddle with them for a while before I can get one or the other inserted properly, although I am beginning to get the hang of it.
This mower is WONDERFUL! July 21, 2010 Toshasmom (Nebraska) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well worth the investment. First of all it came almost fully assembled. Pop the frame in the bag and done! It starts immediately - press the button, hold the handle and it's on. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner. We had read reviews where the mower was said to be heavier than previous mowers, however not in our case - it is actually lighter. And when it mows it also mulches so the bag holds much more than our previous mower. Our front yard was usually a 1 to 1 1/2 bag task, while the back yard was 2-3. Now the front yars is about 1/2 to 3/4 of a bag and the back is 1 to 1 1/2. The battery stays charged for our yard with no issues. Plus we're not covered with grass clippings, dirt and smelling like gasoline. No more gas cans to mess with. No pulling cords to start the mower and hope it doesn't break. We couls not be happier with this mower - we actually have a discussion as to who GETS to mow now - it's actually fun!!!
I'm glad I bought it July 20, 2010 Joe G. Colunga 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Needing a new lawn mower, I troubled over whether electric mowers would be just as good as gas-powered mowers. The thing is, I hate having to buy fuel for gas-powered equipment, not to mention the stench! But a couple friends said they'd gone electric already and had no regrets so I took the plunge and ordered this unit because it was cordless--electric cords being the only drawbacks my friends suggested. I too have no regrets. It's incredibly easy to load the battery, to raise or lower the mowing platform and to start! It cuts as well as a gas-powered mower but it's quieter and stench-free. Because it's lighter in weight, I find the maneuverability easier as well. And I have to say, there was one time I forgot to take the battery out for charging and left it in the unit for a week. When it was time to mow again, I went ahead and tried using it and was able to mow both front and back yards without problems--and I don't have small yards. After weeks of using it, I enjoyed it so much, I posted praises for it on my facebook account and got emails from others interested in knowing more about it. So far two of my fb friends have purchased this unit as well. I highly recommend this unit to anyone considering it.
Works great.... July 14, 2010 JT was Here (Bay Area, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very easy to use, cuts evenly and has plenty of juice for my 2500 or so square feet of lawn. Newly sodded so it's very dense and it cut through it no problem. Switched from a gas mower and love it.
